See temporary & seasonal jobs →How to get a warehouse job with no experience
- Check your right to work. Every UK employer must see proof before you start, such as a passport or a share code.
- Get safety boots. Most sites ask for steel or composite toe-cap boots. Some agencies give them free on your first shift.
- Say which shifts you can do. Nights, weekends and early starts are the easiest way in, and they often pay more.
- Sign up with one or two agencies. Agencies fill a large share of warehouse jobs. Ask if the role can go permanent after 12 weeks.
- Apply early in peak season. From October to January, big distribution centres hire thousands of temporary staff.

Warehouse jobs UK: FAQs
How much do warehouse jobs pay in the UK?
Recent warehouse ads that show a real salary pay a typical £28,500 a year (the median of 65 ads), about £14.64 an hour for a 37.5-hour week. No job can pay below the National Living Wage, which is £12.71 an hour for workers aged 21 and over from April 2026. Night shifts, weekends and an FLT licence usually add to the hourly rate.
How many warehouse jobs are there in the UK right now?
We found 3,512 live warehouse jobs when this page was last updated on 3 November 2026. The biggest numbers are in Northampton, Coventry, Birmingham.
Do I need a forklift licence?
No. Most picker, packer and operative jobs need no licence. A forklift (FLT) licence opens up driver roles, which made up about 3% of recent ads, and they usually pay more.
Are warehouse jobs hard?
The work is physical. You stand and walk for most of the shift and lift boxes, so comfortable boots help. Most people get used to the pace within the first two weeks, and you get breaks under UK working time rules.
Is it free to apply?
Yes. A real employer or agency never asks you to pay for a job, training, a DBS check or uniform. If an ad asks for money, do not pay and read our safety tips.
